Dedicated Local Language Teacher Wins Prestigious Award for the Second Time in 4 Years

A language teacher from Co. Wicklow, who speaks 3 languages, has again been rewarded for the quality of the lessons and teaching that she provides to local children in the area.

Georgia Gallagher teaches extracurricular French and Spanish classes, under her language school “Greystones Languages for Children”, to local primary children, through the award winning La Jolie Ronde programmes, at primary schools and open centres in and around Co. Wicklow. Georgia, who has been described as “dedicated to her teaching” was honoured, for the second time in four years, with the much acclaimed La Jolie Ronde Licensee of the Year Award for Ireland. Georgia came first out of 30 licensees in Ireland and was rewarded for providing high quality language classes, maintaining and developing her business and displaying effective marketing and promotion.

On finding out that she had won this award at La Jolie Ronde’s Annual Conference in Dublin, Georgia commented, “I am absolutely thrilled to have won again. I first won it back in 2015 so to win for the second time is a great honour.  Learning another language is even more important than ever in today’s increasingly interconnected world.  Young children are highly adaptable so that learning a new language is often very easy for them. With my classes I ensure my pupils are relaxed, having fun and under no pressure. I feel it is very important, if a child is to embrace languages, that any language experience becomes an enjoyable part of their life”.

Georgia’s passion for languages was ignited firstly at school where she studied both French and German at A Level.  She then travelled back and forth to France and Germany: living, working and studying for some 6 years, before finally graduating from Wolverhampton University with a BA (Hons) degree in Languages, Business and Information Technology.  More travel was to follow and Georgia found herself teaching English and French at a finishing school in Switzerland as well as at an English Language School in New Zealand. Georgia’s language skills held her in good stead and she then began working in international sales/event management in the tourism industry in Ireland.
Originally from the North West of England, Georgia moved to Ireland in 1995 after travelling, living and working abroad (graduates with language skills were in high demand and she had no problem finding work). From Dublin Georgia and her family relocated to Kilmacanogue, Co. Wicklow in 2009.

In 2013, now with two young daughters and her eldest about to start primary school, Georgia took to speaking French at home, reading books in French and listening to French songs and over time word got around that learning French was fun!  This led to friends and school Mums asking if she would teach their children too!

Encouraged by this and her underlying passion for languages, Georgia found herself looking at opportunities where she could juggle family life and use her linguistic skills.  She came across an opportunity with La Jolie Ronde, teaching French to local children in the area and hasn’t looked back!

Today Georgia’s language business has gone from strength to strength.  Together with 2 tutors, Rachel and Janine, they currently teach 15 weekly classes of both French and Spanish to almost 100 children in local primary schools in Greystones and Newcastle as well as Patrick’s Parish Centre, Greystones.  There are plans in the pipeline to open a new centre in Wicklow Town this September.

This preparation for languages at Secondary School is proving extremely popular and hugely beneficial for a large number of pupils attending Georgia’s classes each year and Georgia, Rachel and numerous other parents with children at secondary school are seeing the immediate advantage to learning a language prior to starting secondary school.  Alan Cox, Principal at TCG Secondary School endorses the classes and is encouraging parents of children in primary school to get their children learning languages early. He is also fully supportive of classes being set up in Wicklow Town.

General Manager for La Jolie Ronde Steve Baker added, “Georgia is truly inspirational and has yet again shown outstanding commitment, dedication and drive to ensure her business is a thriving success.  Her passion for languages, coupled with her Award is truly deserved”.

Greystones Languages for Children

Being a mother of two young children inspired Georgia in 2012 to return to her love of languages and teaching and set up a language school, Greystones Languages for Children (GLC) to offer language classes in her community for French and Spanish. Setting… up GLC enabled Georgia to bring her language, teaching and administrative skills together to run a small business which fits around the lifestyle she leads with her family.

These girls (including my own daughter) have been learning with me since I started in 2013,  yes 5 years ago!  They are so prepared for secondary school and it’ll make life much easier for them and perhaps a second language won’t seem daunting to them!

Local Activity wins Prestigious International Children’s Awards

La Jolie Ronde Languages for Children has been crowned Best National Activity for 5-12 year olds for the 3rd year running in the prestigious International children’s awards “What’s On 4 Juniors Awards 2016”.

Earlier in the year the Award Programme asked parents and children across the UK to nominate their favourite after-school and weekend activities. Every activity had the chance to be nominated and voted for, making the Awards a true representation of how parents & children feel towards what is on offer and a reflection of their eagerness to reward the very best.

The Awards, that are now into their 10th year, were held last Thursday at a champagne Finalists Award Ceremony which saw La Jolie Ronde beat 5 other activities to scoop the Award.

La Jolie Ronde has been successfully leading the way in early language learning to nursery and primary aged children, throughout the UK and Ireland, for over 30 years. The La Jolie Ronde methodology of language teaching includes immersion in French and Spanish from the very beginning, lots of repetition from week to week introducing the target language through fun games, songs and activities.

Georgia Gallagher who runs French/Spanish classes for 5-12 year olds in Greystones said “We are absolutely delighted to win this Award for the 3rd year running. It makes it even more special as it’s the parents and children who have voted for us. Learning a second language comes easy to very young children therefore it is the ideal time to familiarise them with sounds and patterns of a new language and culture. My classes, which will start again from September, are designed to encourage a positive approach to language learning and the emphasis isn’t on reading and writing the language but on speaking, repetition and simply having fun therefore the children are much more happy, relaxed and better at imitating sounds and pronunciation” he/she added.
